First, check to make sure that your iPod isn't paused or that the Hold switch is in the "locked position". If it is you'll see a small "padlock" icon on the screen. If your iPod isn't paused or locked, you will need to reset it.
To reset your iPod, press and hold the Select and Menu buttons for 6-10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Plug your iPod into your computer using the USB 2.0 cable or into an electrical outlet using Apple's power adapter and reset it by pressing and holding the Menu and Select for 6-10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
1. Make sure the Hold switch is turned to the off position. 2. Charge your iPod's battery. 3. Reset your iPod. 4. Let your iPod's battery drain 5. Update your iPod's software 6. Make sure your iPod is the only device in your USB chain on your computer. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard and your iPod, then see if it will turn on. 7. Make sure you are using the USB cable that came with your iPod and that the cable is in good condition. 8. Try connecting your iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works.
Connect your iPod to your computer, press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for 6-10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. If reseting does not work, you may need to restore or update your iPod by placing it in Disk Mode. To put your iPod in disk mode, right after resetting press the Play/Pause button immediately.
If you start up your iPod and it shows a folder with an exclamation mark "!", a "sad" iPod icon, or anything else, you may first want to refer to "iPod Iconology" on the Apple Support Site I recommend you also try the following… 1. Charge your iPod's battery. 2. Reset your iPod. 3. Restore your iPod. If the tip above doesn't work, you may need to have your iPod serviced by a reputable online iPod repair retailer. If your iPod shows the sad iPod icon it means that the disk scan was not able to recover the data so you may need to "restore your iPod" by connecting it to your computer and using iTunes to restore it. Restoring your iPod will erase all the songs and files on it. If restoring your iPod doesn't work, likewise, you may need to have it serviced.
